How to Keep Food Fresh with the Esky

Crafting and Placing the Esky

The Esky is the entry point for food preservation. Craft it using the crafting_shaped recipe that combines a Biodegradable Item with the other ingredients defined in the recipe. Once crafted, place the Esky down like any storage block. It holds food items and slows the transition from fresh food into Rotten Food.

Using the Esky

Open the Esky and place your food inside. Any food item that would normally rot in a chest will last longer here. The Esky is not a full freezer — it is a portable cooler tier. Use it for short trips or as a buffer before you build a Freezer. When food inside finally turns, it becomes Rotten Food, which you can remove and dispose of. Do not store Spoiled Milk in the Esky expecting it to recover — Spoiled Milk is already a ruined item.

Progression

Start with the Esky, then upgrade to the Icebox and finally the Freezer as your food stockpile grows. The Esky remains useful as a field container even after you have better blocks at home.
