Crafting the Icebox

The Icebox is the mid-tier preservation block. Craft it with the crafting_shaped recipe that uses a Biodegradable Item as one of its ingredients. Place the finished Icebox wherever you keep your food supply.

What Goes Inside

Put fresh food into the Icebox to slow spoilage. Items that would become Rotten Food in a normal chest stay edible longer here. The Icebox is stronger than the Esky but weaker than the Freezer, so use it for medium-term storage. Keep Spoiled Milk out of it — that item is already ruined and will not revert. Rotted Item and Rotten Food are waste products; pull them out and discard them so they do not clutter the slots you need for good food.

When to Upgrade

If you are still seeing food turn into Rotten Food too quickly, move your stock to a Freezer. The Icebox is best for a small base or an outpost where you are not stockpiling large amounts. Pair it with an Esky for travel and a Larder Box for bulk dry goods.
