Optimize Lighting in Caves and Dark Areas
Understand Torch Light Falloff
Focal Shaders simulates realistic light decay from torches and other light sources. Light spreads from the source but gradually fades over distance, creating natural shadows in caves rather than flat darkness.
Place Torches Strategically
To light caves effectively, space torches closer together than vanilla Minecraft requires. Since light falloff is more realistic, you'll need more light sources to achieve the same brightness. Experiment with placement to find a balance between visibility and atmosphere.
Adjust Global Brightness Settings
If caves feel too dark, access the shader menu and increase the ambient light or global illumination slider. This brightens shadowed areas without adding light sources, useful for maintaining visibility during exploration.
Use Different Light Colors
Torches, lanterns, and other light blocks may render with warmer or cooler tones depending on shader settings. Observe how different light sources look in your caves and choose blocks that match your desired aesthetic.
Test Nighttime Visibility
Explore your world at night to see how torches and moon light interact. Adjust settings until nighttime feels atmospheric but still navigable.
