Switch an Item to Its Classic Texture

Using the Anvil Method

To see an item in its old pre-1.17 style, you'll need to rename it in an anvil using a specific character.

Steps:

1. Place an anvil in your world

2. Open it and place the item you want to change in the left slot

3. In the name field, type a comma character: ,

4. Confirm the rename by moving the renamed item to your inventory

Requirements

This feature requires a CIT (Custom Item Textures) mod to work. CIT Resewn is the recommended choice for this pack. Without it installed, renaming items won't trigger the texture swap.

What Items Work

This method works best with tools, weapons, and ingots. Blocks typically use the randomized texture system instead, so you'll see the classic look randomly as you explore rather than through renaming.

Reverting to New Textures

To switch back to the modern texture, simply rename the item again with a comma, or use a grindstone to remove the custom name entirely.
