Carve Out a Lake or River Valley

Plan Your Waterway

Decide on the path and depth of your water feature. Larger, deeper valleys suit lakes; narrower, winding paths work for rivers. Use a brush size appropriate to your design—larger brushes for lakes, smaller ones for detailed river curves.

Excavate the Basin

Hold an arrow in your hand and select a brush suited to your shape. Click repeatedly along your planned path to remove blocks and create the valley. For lakes, use a large circular or oval brush; for rivers, use a narrower brush and trace your desired course. The asynchronous system handles large excavations without lag.

Deepen as Needed

Make multiple passes to reach your target depth. Smaller brushes let you add detail—steeper banks on one side, gentler slopes on the other, or a varied bottom.

Add Water

Once excavation is complete, place water source blocks at the top of your valley. Water will flow naturally downhill, filling your lake or following your river path. Adjust the terrain if water doesn't flow as expected.
