How to Set Up a Cutting Board and Knife

Place a Cutting Board in your world and craft a Knife. Knives come in Flint Knife, Iron Knife, Diamond Knife, and Golden Knife tiers. Use the Cutting Board by placing an ingredient on it, then right-click with the appropriate Knife to process it.

What You Can Process

The Cutting Board handles ingredient prep that feeds into other recipes. Use it to break down items into cuts and slices such as Cooked Chicken Cuts, Cooked Cod Slice, and Cooked Salmon Slice. It also produces items like Ham and Bacon that go into larger dishes.

Keep a Knife in your hotbar whenever you cook. Many recipes in the Cooking Pot expect pre-cut ingredients rather than raw blocks, so the Cutting Board is the first station to visit before you start a meal. If you plan to cook often, set the Cutting Board next to your Cooking Pot so you can move ingredients directly between them.

Knife tier affects what you can cut and how fast. Start with a Flint Knife early, then upgrade to Iron Knife or Diamond Knife as your materials allow. A Golden Knife works too if you have gold to spare. Carry a spare Knife in a Basket or Cabinet so you are never stuck mid-recipe.
