How to Make a Cutting Board and Use Knives

Crafting the Cutting Board

Place one Cutting Board anywhere you have a solid block beneath it. It is the core tool station for processing ingredients. You will also need a knife: craft a Flint Knife, Iron Knife, Diamond Knife, or Netherite Knife. Higher-tier knives cut faster and last longer.

Cutting and Harvesting

Right-click the Cutting Board with a knife in hand to place the tool on it. Then right-click with an ingredient to process it. Use a knife directly on placed Cabbage, Rice, or Onion crops to harvest them and obtain the produce plus seeds. Many recipes require cut ingredients rather than whole ones, so keep the board stocked.

• Cooked Chicken Cuts from cooked chicken
• Cooked Cod Slice and Cooked Salmon Slice from cooked fish
• Cooked Mutton Chops from cooked mutton
• Beef Patty from raw beef
• Bacon and Eggs components from Cooked Bacon

Progression Logic

Start with a Flint Knife as soon as you have flint and sticks. Upgrade to Iron Knife once you have iron. The Cutting Board plus a knife unlocks most sandwich, roll, and stew ingredient prep. Without it you cannot produce cuts, patties, or slices needed for Bacon Sandwich, Chicken Sandwich, Egg Sandwich, Cod Roll, Kelp Roll, Mutton Wrap, or Hamburger.
