How to Grow Rice and Get Straw

Plant Rice

Rice grows in shallow water. Craft or obtain Rice, then plant it on a block adjacent to water or in a flooded paddy. Rice progresses through growth stages and can be harvested when mature. Break the mature plant to collect Rice and Rice Seeds for replanting.

Get Straw

Straw comes from processing the rice plant. After harvest, the plant material yields Straw when broken or processed. Use Straw for crafting and as animal bedding material. Store Straw in a Basket or Bamboo Basket to keep it organized.

Use Rice

Rice feeds several recipes:

• Cooked Rice: cook Rice in a Cooking Pot or furnace.
• Fried Rice: combine Cooked Rice with an egg and vegetables in a Cooking Pot.
• Bag of Rice: a storage block for bulk Rice.
• Rice Crate: a decorative storage block.

Practical Setup

Build a paddy near your base with a water source and tilled soil. Plant Rice Seeds in a grid and let them mature. Harvest with any tool or by hand. Replant immediately to keep a continuous supply. Keep a Basket nearby to collect Rice and Straw as you harvest so nothing is lost to despawn.
