Using Crucibles to Get Water and Lava

Pick your wood type

Crucibles come in one variant per wood: Oak Crucible, Spruce Crucible, Birch Crucible, Jungle Crucible, Acacia Crucible, Dark Oak Crucible, Mangrove Crucible, Cherry Crucible, Crimson Crucible, and Warped Crucible. Craft the one that matches the wood you have on hand — the function is the same, only the appearance and recipe material differ.

Fill and heat

Place your crucible and fill it with the material you want to melt down. Apply heat from below using a torch, lava, or another heat source. The crucible collects the resulting liquid, which you can then pull out with a bucket or pipe. This is the standard way to produce water or lava on-site without hauling buckets from a distant source.

Feed it automatically

For continuous operation, place an Auto Compressor nearby to prepare solid inputs, or route items in with a hopper. If you are processing compressed blocks, run them through an Auto Hammer or Auto Compressed Hammer first so the crucible receives manageable pieces.

Pair with sieving

A common loop is: sieve compressed blocks with an Auto Sieve or Auto Heavy Sieve, send the outputs to storage, and use a crucible to supply the liquids your other machines need. Keep an Iron Mesh stocked for the sieve and a heat source under the crucible so neither step stalls.
