Crafting the Hammer

The Ore Crushing Hammer is your entry point into ore processing. Craft it before you need it, since it wears down with use. Once you have the hammer in hand, you can break down raw ore blocks into grits instead of smelting them whole.

Crushing Ore into Grit

Use the Ore Crushing Hammer on ore to produce Coarse Iron Grit or Coarse Gold Grit, depending on the ore you strike. These grits are the raw material for later steps in the chain. Iron ore yields Coarse Iron Grit; gold ore yields Coarse Gold Grit. Keep a stack of each on hand, because several other recipes in the mod consume them.

What Grit Unlocks

Coarse Iron Grit and Coarse Gold Grit feed into the extended crafting recipes, including the REDIA Tool line and the Material Storage Box. Do not smelt every ore you mine — reserve a portion for crushing so you have grit available when a recipe calls for it. The hammer is a tool, so expect durability loss; craft a replacement before the current one breaks mid-project.

Practical Loop

Mine ore, crush a batch with the hammer, store the grits in a Material Storage Box, and keep the box near your crafting area. This keeps the crushing step separate from your furnace line and prevents accidentally smelting grits you meant to save.
