How to Set Up Fluid Handling with Barrels, Pipes and Valves

Storage and collection

Place a Fluid Barrel where you want to hold fluid. It stores liquid on site and acts as the endpoint for your pipe run. To feed it, run Fluid Pipe Check Valve blocks between the source and the barrel. The check valve keeps flow moving in one direction, so orient each one so the flow arrow points toward the barrel.

If you are collecting fluid from the world rather than from a tank, place a Small Fluid Collection Funnel at the intake point and route Fluid Pipe Check Valve from the funnel to the Fluid Barrel.

Controlling flow with redstone

Insert a Redstone Controlled Fluid Valve into the pipe line where you want an on/off gate. Apply a redstone signal to open it and remove the signal to close it. Use this to shut off a line feeding a Fluid Barrel without breaking any pipes.

For variable flow, use a Redstone Analog Fluid Valve in the same position. A stronger redstone signal opens it further, so you can throttle how much fluid passes through. Place the analog valve upstream of the barrel and tune the signal strength until the fill rate matches what your source produces. Both valve types sit inline with Fluid Pipe Check Valve segments, so you can combine a check valve for direction and a redstone valve for control on the same run.
