Understand How the Enderman Totem Saves You from Death

How the Protection Mechanic Works

The Enderman Totem of Undying is purely a visual reskin—it functions exactly like the vanilla totem. When you take damage that would reduce your health to zero or below, the totem automatically activates.

What Happens:

1. The totem must be in your off-hand slot to work

2. When fatal damage occurs, the totem activates instantly (no manual activation needed)

3. Your health is restored to a safe level

4. You receive temporary status effects for protection

5. The totem is consumed and disappears from your off-hand

Limitations to Know

The totem only works once per totem—after activation, you must obtain another one to be protected again. It won't protect you from certain instant-death mechanics like the void. The dark Enderman appearance doesn't change how the protection works; it's purely cosmetic. Always keep a totem in your off-hand during dangerous activities like cave exploration, End dimension travel, or combat with powerful mobs.
