Optimize Ember Shaders for Low-End Computers

Check Current Performance

Enable the FPS counter (F3 debug screen) to see your frame rate. If it's below 60 FPS, optimization is needed.

Reduce Quality Settings

Open Shader Options (Shift + O) and look for performance-related toggles:

  • Shadow quality — lower settings reduce shadow detail but improve frame rate significantly
  • Water reflections — disable or reduce reflection distance
  • Bloom quality — set to low or minimal
  • Ambient occlusion — disable if present, as it's computationally expensive
  • Ray tracing or advanced lighting — turn off if available

Adjust Render Distance

In your main video settings, lower render distance to 8–12 chunks. This is often more impactful than shader settings alone.

Monitor Results

After each change, check your FPS. Ember Shaders is designed to run on basic hardware, so you should achieve playable frame rates (40+ FPS) even with modest adjustments.

Balance Visuals and Performance

Find the sweet spot where the shader still looks good but runs smoothly. You may not need to disable every feature—often reducing quality rather than removing it entirely works best.
