How to Get Started Catching Bugs

Catch Bugs in the Wild

Bugs spawn as mobs you can catch and hold as items. The raw bug items you can collect are Aphid, Camel Spider, Carpenter Ant, Centipede, Cicada, Cricket, Crimson Tiger Beetle, Dung Beetle, Fire Ant, Grasshopper, Jumil Bug, Locust, Scarab, Scorpion, Slugs, Sow Bug, Termite, Wood Termite, and Witchetty Grub. Kill or capture these to obtain the raw item, then bring them back to your base.

Build Your Processing Station

You need two utility blocks to turn raw bugs into food: the Bug Zapper and the Fryer. Place the Bug Zapper where bugs gather so it can handle them for you, and place the Fryer as your cooking station. The Fryer is what converts raw bugs into their cooked forms.

Cook Your First Bugs

Put raw bugs into the Fryer to produce Cooked versions: Cooked Aphid, Cooked Camel Spider, Cooked Carpenter Ant, Cooked Centipede, Cooked Cicada, Cooked Cricket, Cooked Crimson Tiger Beetle, Cooked Dung Beetle, Cooked Fire Ant, Cooked Grasshopper, Cooked Jumil Bug, Cooked Locust, Cooked Scarab, Cooked Scorpion, Cooked Slugs, Cooked Sow Bug, Cooked Termite, Cooked Wood Termite, and Cooked Witchetty Grub. Cooking makes them safe and better to eat.

Get Vegetable Oil

Vegetable Oil is a key ingredient in bug cooking recipes. Keep a supply on hand before you start frying, since many recipes call for it alongside the raw bug.
