How to Craft Hammers and Excavators for Area Mining

Hammer Basics

Hammers break blocks in a wider area than a standard pickaxe. Available tiers: Iron Hammer, Golden Hammer, Diamond Hammer, Netherite Hammer, Emerald Hammer, Ruby Hammer, Amethyst Hammer, Copper Hammer, and Obsidian Hammer. Each is crafted with the crafting_shaped recipe type using that tier's material. A Hammer is ideal for clearing stone, ore veins, and large walls quickly. Hold the Hammer and mine a block — adjacent blocks in the area break at the same time.

Excavator Basics

Excavators do the same area effect but for shovel-type blocks like dirt, sand, and gravel. Available tiers: Wooden Excavator, Iron Excavator, Golden Excavator, Diamond Excavator, Netherite Excavator, Emerald Excavator, Ruby Excavator, Amethyst Excavator, Copper Excavator, and Obsidian Excavator. Craft each with the crafting_shaped recipe type using that tier's material. Use the Excavator when terraforming or digging foundations.

Progression Tip

Start with Iron Hammer and Iron Excavator once you have iron ingots. Upgrade to Diamond or Emerald when you have those materials. Netherite Hammer and Netherite Excavator require a smithing_transform recipe with a Tool Smithing Template.
