How to Craft Dwarf Coal and Dwarf Charcoal

Turning Charcoal Into Dwarf Charcoal

Dwarf Charcoal is the base material for everything else in the mod, and it starts from ordinary charcoal. Place charcoal into a crafting grid to produce Dwarf Charcoal. Once you have Dwarf Charcoal, you can compress it further: combine Dwarf Charcoal in a crafting grid to obtain Dwarf Coal, the denser fuel item.

Turning Coal Into Dwarf Coal

If you already have regular coal, you can convert it directly. Use a crafting recipe that takes coal and outputs Dwarf Coal, skipping the charcoal step. This is the faster route when you are mining and have coal on hand rather than charcoal from a furnace.

Storage and Fuel Use

Both Dwarf Charcoal and Dwarf Coal can be packed into a Block of Charcoal for compact storage. A Block of Charcoal is a full block you can place, and it can be broken back down into its component material when you need it again. Keep a stack of Dwarf Coal on you as fuel — it is the input for the torch recipes below, so you will want a steady supply before you head underground.
