Using the Silver Key

What the Silver Key Opens

The Silver Key is a progression item. You need it to open locked content that you cannot access by mining or crafting alone. Carry it with you whenever you are exploring, because the lock it opens is not always visible from a distance.

Getting and Using It

Obtain a Silver Key before you attempt the content it unlocks. Once you have one in your inventory, approach the locked target and use the key on it. The key is consumed or spent when it opens the lock, so treat each Silver Key as a single attempt.

Do not drop your Silver Key in a dangerous area. If you die while carrying it, you have to retrieve it or find another one before you can open the lock again.

Planning Around Keys

Because Silver Keys gate progression, stock up before a long trip. If a route or room requires a Silver Key, clear the surrounding area first so you are not fighting while you fumble with the lock. Pair the key with a Teleport Back item so that after you open the lock and loot what is behind it, you can leave quickly instead of walking back through everything you already cleared.
