Gathering Hell Stone and Preparing for the Hell Dimension

Mining Hell Stone

Hell Stone is the material behind the Hell Portal frame. Find Hell Stone blocks in the world and mine them with a pickaxe. Collect more than you think you need, because a full portal frame takes a ring of Hell Stone blocks and you may want a spare frame or repairs later.

Bring enough pickaxe durability for a full mining trip. If your pickaxe breaks mid-frame, you have to go back for another before the portal will work.

Stocking Up Before You Travel

Before you light a Hell Portal, prepare for a dimension you cannot easily walk out of. Bring:

  • A Silver Key, in case the other side has a locked target.
  • A Teleport Back item, so you can return to your anchor.
  • A Teleport Randomizer, as an emergency escape.
  • Food, blocks, and a spare pickaxe.

Setting Up Your Return

Place your Hell Portal somewhere you can find again and record the coordinates. Set your Teleport Back anchor near the portal before you step through. That way, if the Hell dimension turns hostile, you have two ways out: the portal frame itself and your Teleport Back item. Do not light the portal until your return plan is in place.
