How to Craft Tall Iron Doors and Wire Them to Redstone

Crafting the Tall Iron Door

Start with a Short Iron Door, crafted from iron ingots in a shaped recipe. Upgrade it to a Tall Iron Door by combining the short door with additional iron ingots in a crafting grid. The tall version occupies two vertical blocks.

Redstone Activation

Iron doors, both Short Iron Door and Tall Iron Door, do not open by hand. Supply a redstone signal to the lower half using a lever, button, pressure plate, or redstone dust line. When the signal is active, the door opens; when it drops, the door closes. Place your trigger adjacent to or directly beneath the lower door block.

Pairing With Other Doors

You can mix Tall Iron Door with wooden Tall doors in the same structure to separate secure rooms from open areas. Because iron doors ignore right-click, they work well as vault entrances while wooden doors handle interior passages.

Sizing Considerations

A Tall Iron Door needs two blocks of clearance above the floor. If your doorway is only one block high, use Short Iron Door instead. Both variants share the same redstone behavior, so swapping between them does not change your wiring.
