Key Types and Which Blank to Inscribe

Matching Blanks to Destinations

Every key begins as a blank and is turned into a working key at a Key Inscribing Station. There are five blanks, and each inscribes into a different kind of key:

  • Blank Portal Key — opens a Gold Dungeon Portal into a dungeon.
  • Blank Personal Dimension Key — opens your personal dimension.
  • Blank Teleporter Key — binds a pair of Local Teleporter blocks.
  • Blank Theme Key — selects a dungeon theme.
  • Blank Advanced Key — unlocks advanced dungeon options.

Inscribing Step by Step

1. Place a Key Inscribing Station. A Damaged Key Inscribing Station will not work.

2. Put the blank key you need into the station.

3. Inscribe it. The station returns the inscribed key and becomes a Used Key Inscribing Station.

4. Use the inscribed key on the matching block or portal.

What to Inscribe First

Start with a Blank Portal Key so you can enter a Gold Dungeon Portal. Inside dungeons you will find Ist Rune, Sunlight Medal, Bell of Secrets, Homeward Pearl, Master Sword, The Terrarian, Matter Manipulator, 1UP Mushroom, Pink Arrow Panel, Ultros Painting, and Damaged Key Inscribing Station blocks. Bring blanks home and inscribe a Blank Theme Key or Blank Advanced Key next. The Dimensional Dungeons Guidebook lists the exact pairing if you forget which blank becomes which key.
