Identify Portal Types by Their Environment
Recognize Each Portal Style
Each of the six portal types has distinctive visual characteristics that help you identify what you've found:
- Soul Sand Valley: Surrounded by soul lanterns and blackstone blocks; eerie blue lighting
- Basalt Deltas: Features basalt columns and lava pools; volcanic appearance
- Bastion: Blackstone fortress-like structure; imposing architecture
- Seeping Portal (Nether Wastes): Standard Nether aesthetic with netherrack and soul fire
- Crimson Forest: Red/crimson wood and blocks; warm color palette
- Warped Forest: Teal warped wood and blocks; cool, alien appearance
Use Portal Types Strategically
1. Different portals spawn in different biomes, so your location determines what you'll find
2. Each portal type contains different loot in its Bastion chest
3. Portal environments vary in danger level—some are safer than others
4. Warped and Crimson portals typically appear in forested biomes; arid biomes host the others
Learning to identify portal types helps you plan which ones to visit based on the loot you need and the biome you're exploring.
