How to Craft the Mask, Goggles and Air Filter

Crafting the Protective Gear

The Desolation Mod's protective set is built from Activated Charcoal and Infused Powder. Craft the Mask and the Goggles as separate wearable pieces, then craft the Air Filter as the consumable that keeps your breathing gear working. Infused Powder is the second key ingredient, so set up a steady supply of it alongside your Activated Charcoal before you start crafting gear in bulk. Produce several Air Filters at once rather than one at a time, since they are the part you will go through fastest.

Using the Gear in the Field

Equip the Mask and Goggles before you travel through ash-covered terrain. Carry spare Air Filters in your inventory so you can swap in a fresh one without returning to base. When you get back, restock: turn Charcoal Bit into Activated Charcoal, turn Activated Charcoal into Air Filters, and keep a reserve of Infused Powder ready for the next batch. Store finished filters in a dedicated chest near your exit so you never leave without one. If you also carry a Charred Boat with Chest, you can keep filters and Infused Powder in the boat's chest while crossing water, keeping your main inventory free for building materials.
