How to Craft and Use Charred Planks in the Desolation Mod

Getting Charred Wood

Charred Wood is the base material for the whole charred building set. Once you have Charred Wood in hand, place it in a crafting grid to break it down into Charred Planks. From those planks you can craft the full family of building blocks: Charred Stairs, Charred Slab, Charred Fence, Charred Fence Gate, Charred Door, Charred Trapdoor, Charred Button, Charred Pressure Plate, Charred Sign, and Charred Hanging Sign. Stripped Charred Wood is also available if you want a cleaner, bark-free look for beams and pillars.

Building With the Charred Set

Use Charred Planks as your default wall and floor block. Swap in Charred Slab and Charred Stairs wherever you need smooth transitions between heights, and run Charred Fence or Charred Fence Gate along the edges of a base. Charred Door and Charred Trapdoor close off rooms and floor openings, while Charred Button and Charred Pressure Plate handle redstone input without breaking the burnt aesthetic. Charred Sign and Charred Hanging Sign label storage and mark paths. For a boat that matches the set, craft a Charred Boat, or a Charred Boat with Chest if you need cargo space while travelling. Keep a stack of Charred Planks on you so you can patch builds on the move.
