Mining Sand Rock, Slow Sand and Sand Soil

Terrain Blocks

Desert terrain in this mod includes Sand Rock, Sand Rock Slab, Sand Soil and Slow Sand. Sand Rock and Sand Rock Slab are stone-like and are cut at a stonecutter. Sand Soil and Slow Sand are ground-level blocks. Mining these yields materials used elsewhere in the mod, including Sand Ball Item and Sandball.

Tool and Processing Notes

Use a pickaxe on Sand Rock and Sand Rock Slab. Convert Sand Rock into Sand Rock Slab at a stonecutter rather than crafting it, since slab production is a stonecutting recipe. Slow Sand slows movement, so avoid building paths across it unless you want the effect; place Sand Soil or Sand Rock instead for normal walking speed.

Pickaxe Tiers

Your mining efficiency depends on which pickaxe you carry. The tiers available are §7Amateur Pickaxe, §7Novice Pickaxe, §eGreat Pickaxe, §eGrand Pickaxe and §6Ancient Pickaxe. Craft the §7Amateur Pickaxe first, then work upward as you collect the required materials. The §6Ancient Pickaxe is the final tier and handles every block in this list without slowdown. Carry a stack of Sandball or Sand Ball Item for any recipe that calls for compacted sand.
