Finding Exit Portals and Escape Routes

Systematic Room Exploration

The Backrooms map hides exit portals throughout its interconnected yellow hallways. Start by mapping out the layout mentally as you walk—note which corridors lead where and mark dead ends. Exit portals are typically hidden in less obvious rooms rather than main hallways.

Search Strategy

1. Check side rooms and alcoves carefully; portals often sit in corners or behind visual clutter

2. Look for rooms that feel different from standard hallways—unusual lighting, different wall textures, or architectural changes

3. Examine the floor and ceiling as well as walls; some exits may be positioned unconventionally

4. In multiplayer, split up to cover more ground faster, but stay within calling distance

5. Listen for audio cues—some areas may have subtle sounds near escape points

Avoiding Dead Ends

When you reach a corridor that loops back or has no forward exit, backtrack immediately rather than wasting time. The map is designed to feel disorienting, so keep mental notes of which paths you've already explored to avoid circles.

If playing with friends, designate one player to track the route back to spawn in case you need to regroup or restart your search pattern.
