Reduce Performance Impact of Glitch Effects
Identify Performance-Heavy Settings
The datamosh effect processes every frame as a screen filter, which can impact FPS. The most demanding features are typically:
- High block update frequency (blocks changing state every frame)
- Fine pixelation (smaller block sizes require more calculations)
- Motion smearing and color bleeding effects
Optimize Your Configuration
To improve performance:
- Increase block size — Larger glitch blocks mean fewer pixels to process per frame
- Lower update frequency — Reduce how often blocks shift their state; this creates a less frantic but still glitchy look
- Disable or reduce motion smearing — This effect is computationally expensive; turning it down helps significantly
- Reduce color bleeding intensity — Simpler color calculations free up processing power
Monitor FPS Changes
After each adjustment, check your FPS counter to see the impact. Small tweaks to block size and update speed often yield the best performance gains while maintaining the visual character of the shader.
