Building with Aridrock, Darkslate, Duskrock and Grimestone

The Four Stone Families

Darker Depths adds four stone families you can mine and shape: Aridrock, Darkslate, Duskrock, and Grimestone. Each has a full set of Bricks, Bricks Slab, Bricks Stairs, Bricks Vertical Slab, Bricks Wall, Pillar, Slab, Stairs, Vertical Slab, and Wall variants. Arid Deepslate also exists as a separate stone block.

Stonecutting Everything

The mod has 96 stonecutting recipes, which is how you get most of these shapes. Put the base stone — Aridrock, Darkslate, Duskrock, or Grimestone — into a stonecutter and cycle through the outputs. You can cut straight to Bricks, Pillar, Slab, Stairs, Vertical Slab, or Wall without crafting intermediate blocks first.

Chiseled and Cracked Variants

Each family also has Chiseled and Cracked Bricks: Chiseled Aridrock Bricks, Chiseled Darkslate Bricks, Chiseled Duskrock Bricks, Chiseled Grimestone Bricks, and the matching Cracked versions. Use Chiseled for feature walls and Cracked for weathered sections. Mossy Grimestone is available for overgrown builds.

Mixing the Palette

Combine families in one build for depth: Aridrock Bricks as the main wall, Darkslate Pillar as columns, Duskrock Bricks Vertical Slab as accents, and Grimestone Bricks Stairs for rooflines. Vertical Slabs let you panel walls without the stepped look of normal slabs. Keep a stonecutter next to your build site and a chest of raw stone beside it.
