Mining Strategy and Depth

Different ores spawn at different depths. Dig downward in a controlled pattern—either a staircase or a shaft with branches. Mark your path with torches on one side so you always know which direction leads home. Bring multiple pickaxes; stone pickaxes break quickly.

Ore Identification

Stone ore appears as lighter speckles in regular stone. Iron ore is darker and requires a stone pickaxe or better. Coal ore is black with white speckles and lights your furnace. Dig carefully and collect everything you find.

Safe Digging Practices

Never dig straight down or up—you risk falling into lava or drowning. Always dig at an angle or create a shaft with safe footing. Listen for water and lava sounds before breaking blocks. If you hit lava, back away and let it cool or use water to create obsidian.

Resource Management

Smelt raw ores in your furnace to get ingots. Store excess materials in chests at your base. Prioritize iron for tools and armor, then gather coal for fuel and torches. Return to the surface before dark to avoid getting trapped underground.
