Create Striking Screenshots and Builds with the LiDAR Aesthetic
Understand What Photographs Well
The LiDAR look emphasizes geometric shapes and contrast. Blocky, angular structures photograph better than organic terrain. Neon points stand out most against the dark background, so structures with clear silhouettes work best.
Design for the Shader
- Build with clean lines and sharp angles—the grid will emphasize these
- Use glowing blocks (amethyst, glowstone, soul lanterns) as focal points; they create bright anchors in the scan
- Avoid overly complex textures; the shader simplifies them into the point-cloud effect anyway
- Create tall structures that break the horizon line—they're more visually striking in LiDAR
Optimize Screenshot Conditions
- Take screenshots at night or in caves where the dark background makes neon glow most visible
- Position yourself to frame structures against empty sky or dark areas
- Use high render distance when taking screenshots (even if you play with lower distance) for dramatic depth
- Adjust shader glow settings slightly higher before screenshotting for maximum impact
The abstract digital aesthetic rewards minimalist, geometric design over detailed realism.
