Adjust Brightness and Contrast for Better Visibility
Open Shader Settings
Access Video Settings → Shaders → Shader Options while in-game. Navigate to the brightness and contrast controls within the CRT Monochrome Shaders configuration panel.
Increase Brightness if Needed
Monochrome and retro effects can darken your screen compared to vanilla Minecraft. If caves, interiors, or nighttime feel too dark, increase the brightness slider. This helps maintain visibility without disabling the shader entirely.
Adjust Contrast
Contrast controls the difference between light and dark areas. Increasing contrast makes details pop and improves readability of blocks and mobs in monochrome mode. Decreasing it creates a softer, more washed-out vintage look.
Test in Different Lighting
Visit various locations—bright deserts, dark caves, and twilight forests—to see how your brightness and contrast settings perform across different conditions. Adjust until you find a balance that works everywhere.
Fine-Tune for Comfort
If you experience eye strain from the retro effect, increase brightness slightly. If the monochrome world feels too washed out, boost contrast. These two settings are your primary tools for making the shader comfortable during extended play sessions while preserving the 1980s aesthetic.
