What Uses Smithing Transform

The mod contains two smithing_transform recipes. One of them produces the Netherite Crossbow from a base crossbow. The other is a second smithing-based upgrade in the same progression line. Both are performed at a smithing table, not a crafting table.

Running a Smithing Transform

1. Place a smithing table.

2. Right-click it to open the smithing interface.

3. Put the smithing template in the template slot.

4. Put the upgrade material in the material slot.

5. Put the base item in the base slot.

6. Take the transformed result from the output slot.

The interface has exactly three input slots, so if a recipe is not producing output, check that all three are filled with the correct items.

Choosing Between Crafting and Smithing

Use a crafting table for the four bolt types — Iron Bolt, Golden Bolt, Diamond Bolt, and Netherite Bolt — plus Explosive Bolt, since those are crafting_shaped. Use the smithing table only for the two smithing_transform recipes, which upgrade existing gear rather than creating bolts from raw materials. Keep both stations near each other so you can move between bolt production and gear upgrading without travelling.
