How to Craft and Use a Watering Can

Watering Cans come in four tiers: Iron Watering Can, Gold Watering Can, Diamond Watering Can, and Netherite Watering Can. Each tier is made with a crafting_shaped recipe, and the Netherite Watering Can is the one that uses the smithing recipe to upgrade from the Diamond Watering Can.

Filling and Using

Fill a Watering Can with water, then use it on growing crops to speed them along. Higher tiers cover more ground per use and hold more water, so upgrade as soon as you have the materials. The Iron Watering Can is the entry point; craft it first, then work toward Gold, Diamond, and finally Netherite.

Upgrade Path

Keep your previous can when upgrading. The Diamond Watering Can is the base for the smithing upgrade to Netherite, so do not discard it. Gold sits between Iron and Diamond in the crafting_shaped chain. If you are short on a tier's material, stay on the lower can and keep watering — the effect still applies, just over a smaller area.

Practical Routine

Water crops right after planting and again as they grow. Pair watering with Feather Meal or Potash to push growth further. Carry a full can whenever you head to your farm so you are not running back to water.
