How to Make Andesite Alloy and Your First Cogwheel

Smelt the Alloy

Andesite Alloy is the backbone of most Create builds. Combine Andesite with Zinc and Iron in a Basin, or craft it directly with a crafting_shaped recipe using Andesite, Zinc, and Iron Nuggets. Once you have Andesite Alloy, craft a Block of Andesite Alloy for storage or use the ingot form in recipes.

Craft the Cogwheel

Place Andesite Alloy in a crafting grid to produce a Cogwheel. Cogwheels are the simplest rotational component. Place two Cogwheels next to each other and they mesh: turning one turns the other in the opposite direction. Use a Clutch between them to disengage rotation on demand, or an Adjustable Chain Gearshift to change speed and direction.

Power It

Attach a Cogwheel to a source of rotation. A large Cogwheel meshing with a small Cogwheel changes speed: large drives small for higher speed, small drives large for more torque. Chain Conveyor blocks let you route rotation across gaps. If you need to move items, place an Andesite Funnel on a Basin or Chute and feed it with a Cogwheel-driven Belt or Chain Conveyor.
