Change Gear Ratios

Speed comes from gear ratios. A large Cogwheel driving a small Cogwheel speeds up the output. Stack ratios to multiply speed across a shaft line. Use an Adjustable Chain Gearshift to switch between two speed settings without rebuilding.

Use an Analog Lever

An Analog Lever gives continuous speed control instead of a fixed ratio. Attach it to a machine's input and dial the rotation up or down. This is the fastest way to tune a single machine without touching the gear layout.

Manage Stress

Faster rotation draws more stress from your power source. If machines stall, add more power capacity or reduce the load. A Clutch lets you disconnect sections you are not using. For contraptions, a Clockwork Bearing and Cart Assembler respond to input speed directly, so a faster shaft means faster movement. Combine an Analog Lever with a Clutch to get both speed tuning and instant shutoff on the same line.
