How to Increase and Control Speed

Rotation speed in Create is set by the ratio between the input and output of a speed controller. You change speed by changing gear ratios, not by feeding more power.

Changing Ratios

Use Cogwheels of different sizes meshed together. A large Cogwheel driving a small Cogwheel speeds up the output; a small driving a large slows it down. Chain drives work the same way with Chain Conveyor-style chain runs and the Adjustable Chain Gearshift, which lets you tune the ratio and reverse direction in one block.

Redstone Control

An Analog Lever gives you a variable redstone signal, which is useful for fine control of speed-sensitive blocks. A Clutch lets you cut rotation entirely with a signal, so you can stop a fast line without dismantling it.

Keeping It Stable

Fast rotation stresses machines. If a machine jams, the whole line can stall, so keep Crushing Wheels and other high-load machines on their own branch with a Clutch you can kill quickly. Use Contraption Controls to manage moving contraptions that depend on rotation. Build a small test rig first — one power source, one pair of Cogwheels, one Analog Lever — and confirm the direction and speed before wiring it into a production line.
