How to Grow Maize and Get Corn Kernel

Planting and Harvesting

Break a Bag of Corn Kernel to obtain Corn Kernel items, or find them through the mod's loot. Plant a Corn Kernel on farmland the same way you plant wheat or carrots. It grows through stages and matures into Maize, which you harvest by breaking the mature plant. Harvesting Maize returns Corn Kernel so you can replant and expand your farm.

Storing Your Harvest

Once you have surplus Maize, craft a Corn Crate to store it compactly. A Corn Crate holds a full block of corn, useful for bulk storage or decoration in a farm shed. Keep a stack of Corn Kernel aside specifically for replanting so you never run out of seed stock.

Turning Maize Into Food

Raw Maize is the base for most recipes. Cook it in a furnace, smoker, or campfire to get Grilled Corn, a simple food item. From there you can branch into larger dishes: Corn Soup, Creamed Corn, Cornbread, and Popcorn all trace back to Maize or Corn Kernel as their starting ingredient. Plan your farm size around how many of these dishes you want to make, since each one consumes multiple ears. A modest plot of twenty to thirty plants keeps a single player supplied with both replanting stock and cooking ingredients.
