Compressing Coal, Redstone, Lapis, Quartz, and Diamond

Ore and gem lines

Each of these materials has its own nine-tier compression line: Compressed Block of Coal (1x) through (9x), Compressed Block of Redstone (1x) through (9x), Compressed Block of Lapis (1x) through (9x), Compressed Block of Quartz (1x) through (9x), and Compressed Diamond (1x) through (9x).

Crafting each tier

Combine nine of the base material in a 3x3 grid to get the 1x block. Then combine nine of the previous tier to reach the next:

  • 9x Compressed Block of Coal (1x) → Compressed Block of Coal (2x), and onward to (9x)
  • 9x Compressed Block of Redstone (1x) → Compressed Block of Redstone (2x), and onward to (9x)
  • 9x Compressed Block of Lapis (1x) → Compressed Block of Lapis (2x), and onward to (9x)
  • 9x Compressed Block of Quartz (1x) → Compressed Block of Quartz (2x), and onward to (9x)
  • 9x Compressed Diamond (1x) → Compressed Diamond (2x), and onward to (9x)

Reversing

Shapeless recipes break any tier back down: one block of a tier returns nine of the tier below, and one 1x block returns nine of the raw material. This lets you store bulk Coal, Redstone, Lapis, Quartz, or Diamond compactly and unpack only what you need.

Storage tip

Keep a full ladder of tiers in one chest column. When you need raw material, uncompress downward; when your raw stacks overflow, compress upward.
