How to Craft a Backpack and Carry Items With You

Crafting a Backpack

Backpacks are crafted at a crafting table using a shaped recipe. They come in sixteen colors: Black Backpack, Blue Backpack, Brown Backpack, Cyan Backpack, Gray Backpack, Green Backpack, Light Blue Backpack, Light Gray Backpack, Lime Backpack, Magenta Backpack, Orange Backpack, Pink Backpack, Purple Backpack, Red Backpack, and the remaining dye colors. Pick the color that matches your gear or your storage scheme.

Using the Backpack

Equip or open the Backpack to access its inventory slots. Move items in and out the same way you would with a chest: click to pick up a stack, shift-click to transfer a full stack, and close the interface when finished. Because the Backpack travels with you, it is useful for mining trips, exploration, and hauling loot back to base without returning home.

Organizing Multiple Backpacks

Craft several Backpacks in different colors and assign each one a purpose. For example, keep a Black Backpack for ores, a Green Backpack for food and farming drops, and a Red Backpack for redstone components. Color-coding makes it obvious which bag to open when you need something specific. Backpacks pair well with Pack Frames — Acacia Pack Frame, Birch Pack Frame, Cherry Pack Frame, Crimson Pack Frame, Dark Oak Pack Frame, Jungle Pack Frame, Mangrove Pack Frame, Oak Pack Frame, Pale Oak Pack Frame, and Spruce Pack Frame — which are wood-themed storage items you can craft alongside your Backpack.
