Upgrading and Downgrading Colossal Chests

Moving between material tiers

Colossal Chests are tiered by material: Wood, Copper, Iron, Silver, Gold, Diamond, Obsidian, and Netherite. To change a chest from one tier to another without rebuilding it from scratch, use the Chest Upgrade Tool and the Chest Downgrade Tool.

Upgrade steps

1. Craft a Chest Upgrade Tool.

2. Have the target material ready. Upgrading changes the chest toward a higher tier.

3. Right-click the Colossal Chest with the Chest Upgrade Tool to convert it.

4. Replace any Chest Wall blocks and Interfaces so they match the new material, since all parts of a chest must share one material.

The Chest Downgrade Tool does the reverse, moving a chest back down a tier. Use it when you want to reclaim a lower-tier material or resize a chest you over-built.

Keeping the structure valid

After any upgrade or downgrade, the shell must still be a valid hollow frame of matching Chest Wall blocks. If the chest stops opening, check that every wall and Interface uses the same material as the Colossal Chest block. Swap mismatched pieces with the correct Chest Wall variant, then reopen the chest. Smithing transform recipes exist for tier transitions, so keep the relevant tool and materials on hand before you start.
