How to Cool Down and Survive the Nether

Heat Gear for Hot Biomes

The Nether, deserts, and the area around lava push your temperature up. The counter is Hoglin Hide armor: Hoglin Headpiece, Hoglin Tunic, Hoglin Trousers, and Hoglin Hooves. Kill Hoglins for Hoglin Hide, then sew the set at a Sewing Table. Wear the full set before you enter a hot dimension — partial sets leave you overheating.

Active Cooling

Carry a Filled Waterskin and drink from it to bring your temperature down. Refill the Waterskin at any water source so you always have a full one before a Nether trip. For stationary cooling, build an Icebox and keep it stocked with ice or a Slush Bucket; standing near it lowers your temperature the way a Hearth raises it. A Soulspring Lamp placed nearby gives light without adding heat.

Monitoring and Recovery

Hold a Thermometer to read your current temperature and watch it climb as you approach lava or stay in the open Nether. If you start overheating, retreat to your Icebox, drink from your Waterskin, and shed any Goat Fur pieces — that set is for cold, not heat. For long Nether routes, place an Icebox at each rest stop so you always have a cool-down point within reach. Do not wear Hoglin Hide in cold biomes; swap back to Goat Fur when you return.
