How to Fill a Clay Bucket with Water

Filling from a Water Source

Hold a Clay Bucket and right-click on a water source block. The Clay Bucket becomes a Water Clay Bucket. This works the same way as filling a standard bucket — target a full water source block, not flowing water.

Using the Water Clay Bucket

A Water Clay Bucket can be emptied by right-clicking on a block where you want to place water. This places a water source block and returns the bucket to its empty Clay Bucket form, ready to be refilled.

You can carry water across distances, fill holes, create water sources for farming, or move water to build pools and channels. The Water Clay Bucket behaves as a portable water container.

If you need lava instead, use the same Clay Bucket on a lava source block to get a Lava Clay Bucket. The empty Clay Bucket is the shared starting point for both filled variants, so you can switch between water and lava tasks by emptying and refilling as needed.

Keep in mind that the Clay Bucket must be the finished, smelted version. An Unfired Clay Bucket cannot hold water.
