How to Fill a Clay Bucket with Lava

Finding and Filling Lava

Locate a lava source block — commonly found in caves, ravines, and near lava lakes. Hold a Clay Bucket and right-click the lava source block. The Clay Bucket becomes a Lava Clay Bucket.

Handling the Lava Clay Bucket

A Lava Clay Bucket holds lava and can be emptied by right-clicking on a block to place a lava source. This returns the bucket to an empty Clay Bucket. You can use this to move lava for fuel, traps, or building projects.

Lava is dangerous. Carry the Lava Clay Bucket carefully and avoid right-clicking on flammable blocks or near yourself. Placing lava in the wrong spot can start fires or destroy items.

If you want water instead, empty the Lava Clay Bucket and refill the resulting Clay Bucket from a water source. The empty Clay Bucket is interchangeable between water and lava tasks.

Remember that only the finished Clay Bucket can be filled. The Unfired Clay Bucket must be smelted first. Once you have a Clay Bucket, you can freely switch between Water Clay Bucket and Lava Clay Bucket by emptying and refilling.
