Reduce Performance Impact While Keeping Visual Effects
Lower Shader Intensity Strategically
If you experience lag, start by reducing static and glitch strength rather than disabling the shader entirely. Lower intensity settings maintain the nostalgic VHS aesthetic while consuming fewer GPU resources. Experiment with moderate values that balance atmosphere and performance.
Optimize Scanline Settings
Scanlines are typically less performance-intensive than dynamic glitch effects. You can keep scanline opacity relatively high while reducing glitch intensity, preserving the retro look without heavy performance cost.
Monitor Frame Rate
Use an in-game FPS counter to track performance changes as you adjust settings. The shader is designed for minimal impact, but older systems or heavily modded installations may need tweaking. Test in different environments—caves and dense forests may perform differently than open sky areas.
Fallback Options
If performance remains poor, disable the most resource-intensive effects (usually dynamic glitch artifacts) while keeping static and scanlines active. This maintains visual character while improving stability.
