Persist Custom Data Across World Reloads

How Persistence Works

ChunkAPI Mod saves all custom chunk data to NBT (Named Binary Tag) format, the same system Minecraft uses for world data. When you close and reopen your world, all registered custom data automatically reloads.

What Gets Saved

Every chunk stores its custom data in its NBT structure. This includes:

  • Chunk-level data (applies to the whole chunk)
  • Section-level data (stored per vertical section)

The mod handles serialization automatically—you don't need to manually save or export anything.

Ensuring Data Survives

To guarantee your custom data persists:

1. Keep ChunkAPI installed in your mod folder

2. Keep any mods that use ChunkAPI installed

3. Don't delete chunk files from your world folder

4.

Troubleshooting

If custom data seems lost after reloading, verify that all required mods are still installed and enabled. Removing a mod that stores data will cause its data to become inaccessible, though the NBT data remains in chunk files.
