Turning Gases into Buckets and Blocks

Many gases in the registry exist in two forms: a Bucket item and a placeable Gas block. Knowing which form you have prevents mistakes at the crafting grid.

Bucket vs Block

Gases such as Acetylene Gas, Ammonia Gas, Argon Gas, Butane Gas, Carbon Dioxide Gas, Carbon Monoxide Gas, Chlorine Gas, Ethane Gas, Ethylene Gas, Fluorine Gas, Helium Gas, Hydrogen Gas, Hydrogen Sulfide Gas, Krypton Gas, Methane Gas, and Neon Gas each have a matching Bucket item. The Bucket is the portable form you carry and use in crafting_shaped recipes. Placing the bucket in the world turns it into the corresponding Gas block.

Why It Matters

If you place a gas bucket by accident, you lose the portable form and gain a block in the world. For recipes that need the bucket as an input, that block cannot be used directly. Keep buckets in your inventory or a chest, and only place a Gas block when you actually want it in the world.

Liquids Behave the Same Way

Acetic Acid, Bromine, and Carbon Disulfide also have Bucket forms and matching liquid blocks. Treat them the same: bucket for crafting, block only when placed deliberately.
