How to Build a Cistern and Channel Fluid System

Place the Cistern

Craft a Clay Cistern, then fire it in a Kiln. Fired Cisterns come in Terracotta and Porcelain variants, including Clay Cistern, Terracotta Cistern, and Porcelain Cistern colors such as Black Porcelain Cistern, Blue Porcelain Cistern, and so on. Place a Cistern where you want fluid stored.

Route with Channels

Craft Clay Channel, then fire it to get Terracotta Channel or Porcelain Channel. Place Channels to move fluid between Cisterns and other blocks. Channels connect to Cisterns and to each other.

Control Flow with Faucets

Craft Clay Faucet, then fire it to get Terracotta Faucet or Porcelain Faucet. Attach a Faucet where you want to draw fluid out of a Cistern or Channel. Use the Faucet to release fluid into the block below.

Read Levels with a Gauge

Place a Gauge on your system to read fluid levels. Use it to check whether a Cistern is full before you draw from it.

Build Order

Cistern first, Channels second, Faucet last. Fire every piece in the Kiln before placing it. Match Terracotta or Porcelain parts to the color scheme you want.
