How to Light a Bonfire with the Coiled Sword

Placing the Bonfire

A bonfire is built from a Pile of Bone and Ash placed on the ground, then activated by inserting the Coiled Sword. The Coiled Sword is the key item that turns a pile into a working checkpoint. Without it, the pile is just decoration.

Using the Coiled Sword

Hold the Coiled Sword and use it on the Pile of Bone and Ash. Once lit, the bonfire becomes your respawn and rest point. Resting at it restores you and sets your spawn. Keep the Coiled Sword on you — it is not consumed by lighting a bonfire, so you can carry it to other piles.

Resting and Respawn

After lighting, interact with the bonfire to rest. Resting sets your respawn location to that bonfire. If you die, you return to the last bonfire you rested at. This makes chaining bonfires across your world the core of your progression: place a Pile of Bone and Ash, light it with the Coiled Sword, rest, and move on.

Ash Blocks Nearby

A Block of Ash can be placed around the bonfire as a visual base. It is a full block and does not affect the bonfire's function. Use it to mark the site so you can find your checkpoint again.
