Choosing Between Chest, Ender Chest, and Furnace Boats

What Each Variant Does

• Boat with Chest: carries a normal inventory you can open with right-click. Best for hauling physical loot.
• Boat with Ender Chest: opens your personal ender inventory. Best for accessing shared storage anywhere on water.
• Boat with Furnace: opens a working furnace. Best for smelting while travelling.

All three exist for Oak, Spruce, Birch, Jungle, Acacia, Cherry, and Mangrove. Bamboo uses the Raft equivalents: Bamboo Raft with Chest, Bamboo Raft with Ender Chest, and Bamboo Raft with Furnace. Stripped Bamboo Boat with Ender Chest and Stripped Bamboo Boat with Furnace are also available. Dark Oak only has the Ender Chest and Furnace variants.

Picking the Right One

For a mining trip, take a Boat with Furnace to smelt ore and a Boat with Chest to store the output. For ocean exploration, a Boat with Ender Chest keeps your inventory clear by dumping loot into ender storage. For base-to-base logistics along rivers, a Boat with Chest is the simplest option.

Crafting Reminder

Each variant is made by combining a plain boat of the matching wood with the corresponding block: a chest, an ender chest, or a furnace. Break any of them with an axe to recover the boat and its contents.
