Optimize Shadows for Your Preferred Look and Performance

Find Shadow Controls

Open Shader Options and locate the shadow adjustment panel. This is separate from overall quality presets and lets you fine-tune shadow behavior independently.

Adjust Shadow Softness

Soft shadows are a core feature of this shader. You can control how blurred or sharp shadow edges appear:

  • Softer shadows create a more natural, diffused look under trees and buildings
  • Sharper shadows provide more defined contrast

Control Shadow Distance and Range

Shadows can be rendered at different distances from the player:

  • Longer shadow distance means shadows appear farther away, but costs more performance
  • Shorter distance keeps shadows close to the player, reducing load

Adjust Shadow Intensity

You can make shadows darker or lighter to match your preference. Lighter shadows feel more natural in bright biomes, while darker shadows add drama to forests and caves.

Test in Multiple Environments

Visit different biomes and times of day to see how your shadow settings look. Shadows under dense tree canopies and near structures will show the most noticeable changes. Adjust until the balance between visual appeal and frame rate feels right.
