Crafting and Using the Portal Ignition Item

Getting the Ingredients

Open your crafting grid and check the recipe for the ignition item. The required materials are shown there. Gather each ingredient before you start, since the recipe needs all of them at once.

Crafting Steps

Arrange the ingredients in the exact pattern shown in the recipe book. If the output slot stays empty, your layout is wrong — shift-click the recipe entry to auto-fill the grid. Take the finished ignition item out of the output slot.

Lighting the Frame

Stand in front of your completed portal frame. Use the ignition item on the interior of the frame, the same way you would use flint and steel on an obsidian portal. The frame interior will fill with the portal surface. If nothing happens, confirm the frame is the correct shape and that every frame block is the right one.

Reusing and Storing It

The ignition item is not consumed on a successful light, so keep it in a safe chest near the portal. If the portal ever deactivates, use the same item again. Store it with your other portal supplies so you are not searching for it later.
